FAQ

Who is behind Sur ton mur?

Sur ton mur is curated and run by me - Shira Adriance - out of my Montreal studio. I work directly with the illustrators represented here to curate our collection. For more information about Sur ton mur visit the About page.

Explain some of the terms used on your site – what is a giclée print, what is a limited edition print, and what does archival quality really mean?

A giclée print is a digital print created with a giclée printer. I have two giclée printers in my studio - a medium sized printer and a GIANT printer. Having these printers in-house lets me work with each of my artists to print in small batches – making it more affordable – and gives us ultimate quality control. Giclée printing uses inkjet technology, similar to a desktop printer, but with lightfast pigmented inks and numerous fine printheads for exceptional quality. Even the artists find it hard to distinguish the print from the original piece!

Most of our prints are limited editions, which means that the artist has chosen to print only a certain number of prints. Once a limited edition print run is sold out, it will not be reprinted! This makes your artwork very special, because only a limited number exist in the world. It also lets us add new artwork all the time – as pieces sell out, I’ll add new pieces to our collection. All artwork sold on Sur ton mur comes with a certificate of authenticity and is always signed by the artist. Limited edition pieces are also numbered by the artist.

Archival quality refers to the standard of production of a piece of artwork. Non-archival quality posters become brittle and faded over time, especially if they’re in direct sunlight. Our archival quality digital prints are printed on acid free and lignin free fine art paper with lightfast high quality pigmented inks to last as long as possible, as beautifully as possible.

Can I order other sizes than those listed here?

I may be able to special order a different size for you, depending on the size of the original illustration. Please send me a message to find out more.

Do you work directly with the artists?

Yes, I work one on one with each of the artists listed on Sur ton mur. No middlemen for me!

Can I pick up my order in Montreal?

Yes! We have a local pick up point at the boutique Raplapla, 69 rue Villeneuve Ouest, Montreal. Just complete your order on our site, choosing "Pick up at Raplapla" on the checkout page (more info on this process here). I deliver orders to Raplapla once a week. If you need to receive your order very quickly, please send me an email, as I can often deliver orders to Raplapla the following day if needed.

How long will it take for my order to reach me?

We're a small shop! Orders will be processed within 3-5 business days. I ship via Canada Post. Prints that are 8.5 x 11 inches and smaller ship via Letter-mail: 2-4 days within Canada, 4-6 days to the US, and 6-10 days internationally. Shipping methods for larger prints vary by destination.

If you need your order fast,  contact me to find out about expedited shipping costs.

Please make sure that your shipping address is correct (I ship to the shipping address entered on my website, NOT on Paypal). I am not responsible for lost items due to incorrect shipping addresses.

How is the art packaged for shipment?

All art is packaged in acid and lignin free, archive safe protective envelopes for shipment.

Art pieces with dimensions of 11x14 and smaller are placed between two pieces of cardboard and shipped in rigid envelopes.  Larger pieces of art are shipped in tubes.

What currency are orders processed in?

All orders are processed in Canadian dollars.

What is your return policy?

I want you to be happy! If you're not satisfied, I can refund or exchange your purchase within 30 days of the date of sale. Please note that refunds do not include shipping costs. You are also responsible for the cost of shipping your returned item back to me. Returns must not show signs of wear.

Is the artwork framed?

No, the artwork isn’t framed.

I’ve received a few questions about framing our 8.5×11 and 13×19 inch prints. Here are a few suggestions:

8.5×11 inches : You can frame your 8.5×11 inch print either in a larger frame with a custom-cut mat (from any framing shop, including DeSerres), or in a document/certificate frame, which comes in the 8.5×11 format. You can find frames for 8.5x11 prints in most art supply and craft stores (such as DeSerres or Michaels), at Ikea, and even in office supply stores (such as Staples).

13×19 inches : You can frame your 13×19 inch print in a larger frame with a custom-cut mat (from any framing shop, including DeSerres or Hachem). If you prefer to buy a ready made frame, the following stores carry frames made for 13×19 inch prints :

Amazon
DeSerres
Michaels
Henry’s (Canadian-based online retailer) carries an 18×24 inch frame with a 13×19 inch mat.

At the moment I can’t speak to the quality of the frames from any of the above retailers.
